About us

The United Nations Association of Germany (UNA-Germany, DGVN) is comprised of several different bodies.

The Board of Directors and the Presidium of UNA-Germany represent the association during a two-year term. The members of these bodies are elected at the General Assembly which is held biannually. In special circumstances, the Board of Directors can convene the General Assembly at any time.

The Board of Directors (Vorstand) is the executive body that performs a number of different tasks, which include the preparation and planning of UNA-Germany’s programming, the convening of the General Assembly, the admission of members etc. The current Board of Directors was elected during the 34th General Assembly in Stuttgart on October 14, 2017.

The Presidium (Präsidium) consists of individuals elected by UNA-Germany's members at the annual General Assembly as well as of honorary members. The Presidium is chosen every four years. The members of the Presidium can cast an advisory vote in the meetings of the Board of Directors.

The Secretariat (Generalsekretariat) is located in Berlin. It is the main coordinating body concerned with the planning and implementation of all acitivities, publications, and advocacy.

The Research Council of the UNA-Germany (Forschungsrat) initiates and supports academic research on problems that concern the UN and its specialized agencies. The Research Council organizes UN symposia, which combine aspects of policy, academics and administration. In a sense, it operates as a policy consultation organization.

Eight regional associations (Landesverbände) and several working groups are representing UNA-Germany in the various regions of Germany. With their work programs they strive for the goals of the United Nations.
