#Road2IGF: Data, Sovereignty, Democracy and an African Perspective

The United Nations Association of Germany and the Global Innovation Gathering are proud to jointly host a warm up event to the United Nations Internet Governance Forum (UN IGF).

Leading experts in digital development, data and internet regulation, and civic tech are going to share insights into their research and work. Together they will debate what legal frameworks are necessary to ensure the use of data for public good, individual data sovereignty and strategies for harnessing data for development. They will discuss the role of digital civil society actors in policy making processes, ways to strengthen participatory processes and – of course - their expectations to this year´s UN IGF which will start in Berlin on the following day in precence of UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

Speakers
- Linda Bonyo is a  Kenyan Lawyer and Founder of Lawyers Tech Hub (Lawyers Hub), an organisation using Tech to improve access to justice in Africa by incubating LegalTech startups on one hand and offering Probono legal advice to the Tech Ecosystem.
- Kudzai Mubaiwa is a financial and web literacy evangelist. Her passion is to increase the financial and digital literacy of innovators, small business owners, creatives and makers – and so enable them to create wealth, and ultimately escape poverty. She has facilitated in four continents - Africa, Europe, Asia and North America.
- Nanjala Nyabola is a writer, independent researcher and political analyst currently based in Nairobi, Kenya. Her work focuses on conflict and post conflict transitions, with a focus on refugees and migration, as well as East African politics generally. Her work has appeared in numerous publications including Foreign Policy, Foreign Affairs, Al Jazeera, World Politics Review, as well as chapters in edited collections.
